Rachel Phillips was a beautiful dancer who preformed in places like the Royal Ballet of London, the Kirov in Russia, the Nashville Ballet, Ballet West in Salt Lake City, Utah and many others. That was until she started experiencing symptoms of Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome and now the physical disorder that once gave her the ability to hyperextend, helped give her talent in being a beautiful dancer is now taking her life.
Ehlers- Danlos Syndrome is a genetic condition that effects the way your body produces collagen, or the "glue" of the human body. This is the same condition that I suffer from and something like this could potentially happen to any sufferer.
Rachel now lies in a hospital, barely able to take a breath because her airways are 90% collapsed due to severe tracheobronchomalasia, a condition that causes trachea and bronchial airways to collapse (brought on by her EDS). There is hope though. A doctor in Stockholm, Sweden is willing to do an experimental procedure, using Rachel's own stem cells to grow an airway replacement for a transplant that could save her life. Rachel's only hope is to get to Sweden for this procedure but she needs help. Please help Rachel breathe. Without this surgery, she will die.

The four types of (human) Genetic diseases
1) Single-gene/monogenic Genetic Diseases:
On this category the starting point is a mutation/change in one gene. The next question is how a change in the sequence of a single gene can cause severe disorders. Genes code for proteins which are some of the most important tools for the living beings, and also take place in the structures of the cells. The results of a mutation that happens in a part of gene that codes for a functional part of a protein are unwelcome. Lungs of a patient suffering from cystic fibrosisThe protein is no more functional and as a result, many severe consequences take place. Almost 6000 single gene disorders are known
